JD(S) chief Krishnappa laid to rest

The State Janata Dal (Secular) president, A. Krishnappa, who died here on Wednesday, was laid to rest with State honours, on the premises of the South-East Asia College here on Thursday.

Earlier, the body was kept for public viewing at the BVHS Educational Institution Grounds and hundreds of his followers, Janata Dal(S) leaders and workers paid tributes to their leader.

Traders in K.R. Puram Assembly constituency closed their establishments voluntarily as a mark of respect to Krishnappa. The last rites were conducted in accordance with the Yadava rituals by Krishnappa’s grandson Brijesh Yadav.

Political leaders, including the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, G. Parameshwara, the former Chief Ministers D.V. Sadananda Gowda and B.S. Yeddyurappa, Ministers, K.J. George, H. Anjaneya, Krishna Byre Gowda, M.H. Ambareesh and the former ministers H.D. Revanna and V. Somanna paid their last respects.

Krishnappa represented the Congress in Legislative Assembly for four terms as MLA from Vartur constituency.

Krishnappa quit the Congress after that party did not field him from K.R. Puram constituency in the 2013 Assembly polls and joined the Janata Dal(S). He unsuccessfully contested from the Hiriyur Assembly segment.
