Several progressive organisations will hold “Jayapura Chalo” on Thursday to protest against the recent attacks on Dalits in the country.
Several writers and activists are expected to take part in the protest march. A public programme will also be held as part of Jayapura Chalo.
Komu Souharda Vedike State convener K.L. Ashok, on Wednesday, told The Hindu that several progressive organisations and political parties, including the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Democratic Youth Federation of India, Raitha Sangha, and Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, have announced their support for the protest.
The former minister, B.T. Lalitha Naik, writer G. Rajashekhar, the former chairman of State Backward Classes Commission, C.S. Dwarakanath, journalist Gowri Lankesh and others will participate, Mr. Ashok said.
The participants would take out a protest march in the town, before attending a public meeting at Koppa-Sringeri Circle in Jayapura.
“Dalits, who were beaten up by Hindutva groups, would take part in the event. The programme is to condemn the recent attacks in the name of cow protection”, Mr. Ashok further said.
