Deeply saddened over the murder of journalists and activist Gauri Lankesh, progressive writer Sara Aboobacker said the incident has instilled fear of life among thinkers like her.

“Gauri was as old as my younger son (fourth child). She was like my daughter. The incident has really unnerved me,” said an emotional Ms. Aboobacker.

Recalling her association with Ms. Lankesh, Ms. Aboobacker said she continued the legacy of his father of fearless writing to expose ills in the society. While P. Lankesh introduced her to the field of literature by publishing her story in his newspaper, Ms. Gouri Lankesh continued the association and published many of her writings in Lankesh Patrike.

“We both shared a good bonding as our thinking matched," said Ms. Aboobacker, who says she has been sleep deprived since Tuesday night after hearing the shocking news. Decrying the recent trend of shooting down of progressive thinkers, Ms. Aboobacker said a sense of insecurity was getting ingrained in the minds of progressive writers. The progressive thinkers are not being allowed to freely express their thoughts, which was a right granted by the Constitution.
