A branch of Institute of Nephro Urology (INU) will soon start functioning in Mysuru as the work on establishing the centre got off to a start on the premises of K.R. Hospital here on Wednesday.

The Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) had allotted space to INU on the 4th floor of its building where the branch of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology had been functioning since many years.

Vasu, MLA, gave a start to the work estimated to cost around Rs. 3.5 crore, which will be funded by the Department of Medical Education.

MMCRI Dean and Director B. Krishnamurthy told The Hindu that the branch will be able to serve patients with kidney problems, conduct more number of dialysis and take up kidney transplants with its state-of-the-art infrastructure. “The existing departments of urology will also work with the INU team once it becomes operational.”

Foundation stone laid

Mr. Vasu also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of labour wards and NICU Department of Cheluvamba hospital here. The work had been taken up at a cost of Rs. 4 crore.

As the hospital faces shortage of beds, around 10 beds will be added to the existing labour ward. The number of beds at NICU will go up by 20 for treating newborn babies.
