‘Inspire’ camp from today

School of Life Sciences of Manipal University will conduct its sixth annual Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (Inspire) residential internship programme here from May 26 to May 30.

A release said here on Monday that the programme, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and Manipal University, is aimed at attracting the best young minds from schools towards science and research, through a series of lectures and demonstrations from eminent scientists and speakers. More than 170 school students from rural and urban areas of the State, who are toppers in their Class 10 and Class 11, will spend five days here.

During this period, they will have the opportunity to listen to and interact with mentors from various fields of basic and advanced sciences, while also learning through demonstrations and educational visits.

During the internship programme, the students would have the opportunity to interact with scientists such as V. Nagaraja, Prosenjit Ghosh, Usha Vijayaraghavan, K.P. Gopinanthan, N. Delampady and S.V. Bhat from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, among others from various fields of science.

The students will also visit various laboratories of SLS and other institutions in Manipal University.

Y.S. Rajan, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor, ISRO, Bengaluru, will be the chief guest at the inaugural function here at the Chaitya Hall, Fortune Inn Valley View, at 9 a.m. on May 26. H. Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, and D. Srikanth Rao, Joint Director of Manipal Institute of Technology, would be the guests, the release added.
