Inquiry sought into KIMS ‘irregularities’

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - HUBBALLI:

The National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources (NCPNR) has urged Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil to initiate an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi.

Addressing press persons here on Monday, founder president of NCPNR S.R. Hiremath alleged that the Chief Administrative Officer of KIMS K.S. Ashok Kumar, now transferred, but yet to be relieved, and U.S. Hangaraga, who was the in-charge director for over six months, were involved in irregularities. Mr. Hiremath said that although Mr. Ashok Kumar had been transferred to Mysuru, he was still working at KIMS and was trying to cover up the irregularities he committed at KIMS.

Mr. Hiremath said that they had submitted a detailed letter on the charges against Mr. Ashok Kumar and Dr. Hangara, who he said, had violated guidelines in promotion and recruitments and also in purchase of medicines. “We faxed the detailed letter to the Minister on Sunday and will be submitting the letter supported by valid documents to the Minister personally soon,” he said.
