Infant deaths: BJP forms 12-member fact-finding committee

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has constituted a 12-member fact-finding committee to study the episode of alarming number of deaths of infants in government hospitals in Kolar and various other districts of the State.

Announcing this at a press conference here, BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa said the committee would be led by MLA S. Suresh Kumar, who will function as its convenor.

Later in a statement, Mr. Yeddyurappa expressed concern over such an unfortunate trend of death of infants. He alleged that failure of the government to act seriously on the earlier episodes of death of infants had resulted in the present scenario, with deaths reaching an alarming proportions.

He said the party’s fact-finding committee would visit various districts including Kolar, Bidar, Raichur and Koppal to find out the reasons for the death of infants.

It may be noted that Kolar district hospital has reported death of 90 infants since January alone, while the State as a whole has seen deaths of 11,212 infants in 2016-17.

The other members of the BJP’s fact-finding committee are P.C. Mohan and Karadi Sanganna (MPs), Amarnath Patiland Thipparaju (Legislators), N. Ravi Kumar, Ashwathnarayana, Bharathi Shetty, S. Prakash, Amarnath Patil, Dr. Basavaraj Sajjan, Dr. Padma Prakash and Dr. Prashanth Kamalapurakar.
