Executive council member of the Visvesvaraya Technological University, V.D. Mytri, an expert on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), has said that India was catching up with China in getting patents for various products and innovations and in another decade would surpass it.
Speaking after inaugurating the one-day sensitisation programme on IPR organised jointly by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MME) Development Institute and the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday, Mr. Mytri, who is also the principal of Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology, said that as per one survey in 2014, China ranked 13th with 36,440 patented products and India 20th with 14,550 products patented.
Mr. Mytri said that proposed changes in the Indian Patent laws by the Commerce and Industry Ministry would set at rest the apprehensions of the investors from the countries like USA, Germany and others about the safety of their patented products.
The Union Government is likely to clear these changes in the Indian Patent Act shortly.
Assistant Director of the MSME Development Institute V K K Nadimpalli made introductory remarks and Secretary of the HKCCI Amarnath Patil welcomed.
