Former Congress MP A.H. Vishwanath, who joined JD(S) on Tuesday, has said that he will be the “shadow of JD(S) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda and a friend of H.D. Kumaraswamy.”

Mr. Vishwanath, a leader of the Kuruba community and former close aide of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said that though JD(S) was a regional party, it was one to reckon with and gave the country a Prime Minister, besides grooming many Chief Ministers.

He joined the JD(S) at the party headquarters at J.P. Bhavan. Over 25 Congress leaders also joined the party along with him.

Mr. Vishwanath, who was associated with the Congress for nearly four decades, quit while accusing Mr. Siddaramaiah of ignoring senior party leaders and workers who were responsible for the growth of the party. In fact, Mr. Vishwanath claimed to be responsible for bringing Mr. Siddaramaiah to the Congress and salvaging his political future.
