Small Scale Industries and District in-charge Minister Satish L. Jarkiholi has underscored the need for establishment of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Belagavi, which would go a long way in the progress of the city in particular and North Karnataka region in general.
In a brief chat with media persons on the sidelines of Congress party workers meeting here on Tuesday, he said a delegation of prominent leaders of all political parties from the district would soon meet the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to make out a case for the city.
He said the delegation would meet the Chief Minister shortly after visit to New Delhi immediately after the budget session.
Mr. Jarkiholi, who appeared to be contended with the new portfolio, said he would encourage growth of SSI units and Cottage industries having potential create wealth and employment opportunities to educated and skilled youth in urban and rural areas.
Chain-snatching cases in Belagavi
The District in-charge Minister said he would convene a meeting of senior police officials in the city and district next week to evaluate measures taken to check increasing incidents of chain-snatching in the city. He said the Belagavi City Corporation would be installing more CCTV cameras at various places in the city as part of government’s e-vigilance measures under the Bel-Track Project conceived and being implemented by the police department.
