Hassan Milk Union Ltd. will get an ice cream-making plant with latest machines imported from Italy by the beginning of 2018. The union has spent ₹45 crore to have the plant set up with a capacity of making 40,000 litres of ice cream each day.
Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Hassan Milk Union Ltd. president H.D. Revanna told presspersons here on Monday that the plant is the best of its kind in south India.
“The ice cream-filling machines we have installed for the plant were imported from Italy. No other dairy in south India has such advanced machines. To begin with, we will be producing 20,000 litres of ice cream a day and gradually it will be increased to 40,000 litres,” he said.
The equipment installed has a capacity to fill 12,000 cups, 6,000 cones, 1,200 family packs, and 9,000 candies in an hour. The milk union has built a three-storeyed building for the plant. The deep freezer is located on the ground floor, the first floor has the ice cream-making equipment, and the second floor is dedicated to raw materials.
“The ice cream plant will provide employment to nearly 300 people. They will be appointed on contract basis. Besides that, the ice cream plant will make way for the better use of milk produced by the union. With this, the union will also earn and milk producers will be benefited,” he added.
Gopalaiah, Managing Director of the union, said a survey will be conducted to assess the demand. The union has already got a demand of 5,000 litres from AMUL. “We will be prepared to send the product to the State and outside as well,” he added.
