The ‘Run for unity’ marathon, organised to promote the installation of ‘Statue of Unity’ in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat, was held in several parts of the State on Sunday.
Hundreds of people participated in the run in Bangalore.
Commencing from Freedom Park, the runners went through K.R. Circle, City Civil Court Road, Mysore Bank Circle and Palace Circle before returning to Freedom Park.
Flag off
Among those present were actor Ganesh, who flagged off the event, former international athlete Arjun Devaiah, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi, BJP national leader Shibu Goyal and the State convener for iron collection committee Murugesh R. Nirani besides a large number of BJP legislators as well as former Ministers.
Earlier, arrangement had been made for live telecast of the run at Vadodra where Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering.
In Mysore, the run evoked a good response.
The run, which was flagged off at Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple, passed through various streets in the city before culminating in front of the palace. Students, roller skaters and yoga enthusiasts also took part.
In Belgaum, a large number of BJP workers and activists of Hindutva organisations took part in the run.
In Mangalore, the run started from Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle and ended at Nehru Maidan.
In Bijapur, the run began from Shivaji Circle and touched Ambedkar Circle and Mahatma Gandhi Circle before culminating at Siddeshwar temple.
The run was also held in Bidar.
