Honorary doctorate for Aatre, Shyama Raju

Raj Bhavan has given its approval for conferring honorary doctorate of science (Honoris Causa) of the Visvesvaraya Technological University to Padma Bhushan V.K. Aatre, a scientist and former Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, and P. Shyama Raju, Chancellor of Reva University, Bengaluru .

The degrees will be conferred by the Governor and Chancellor of the VTU on the occasion of the university’s 14th annual convocation scheduled here on Saturday.

The names of Dr. Aatre and Mr. Raju were chosen from 15 eminent personalities in various fields approved by the syndicate recently.

The list was sent to the State government’s screening committee, headed by K. Chidananda Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga. Subsequently, the committee submitted its observations and recommended three names to Raj Bhavan, which however, cleared the names of Dr. Aatre and Mr. Raju for the honours.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address on the occasion. Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande will be present.
