The Kalaburagi police have issued a stern warning to history-sheeters facing criminal cases not to indulge in illegal or unlawful activities during the Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Around 300 history-sheeters in Kalaburagi district were summoned to the District Armed Reserved (DAR) grounds for a parade, where Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar enquired about their present activities and source of income.

The officers beat up the rowdies and forced them to get their hair cut. Mr. Kumar warned them not to wear wristbands and get their tattoos removed. He also warned them of stern action if they tried to incite violence during the Tipu Jayanti festivals.

However, sources said that many rowdies in the district were absent at the parade. Some of the rowdy elements, aged above 60 years, sought removal of their names from the list in lieu of their good behaviour. Mr. Kumar said records would be verified and names of rowdies would be removed if they are found to have not been involved in any anti-social activities for a long time.

Later, Mr. Kumar told reporters that similar meetings with history-sheeters would be held at all the taluk headquarters, where in around 600 rowdies from 39 police stations across the district would be summoned.

Last year, the police had revised the history-sheeters list and removed 280 names. Mr. Kumar said around 1,900 new cases were opened in the district this year and there were 3,700 rowdies named in the list in the district.
