In a first, the people of Karnataka have been given a chance to create the logo for Mysuru Dasara, which will begin on October 1.

Sources told The Hindu that the Dasara Festival Committee had planned to invite people to design the logo for last year’s Dasara. But the idea was dropped after the government scaled down the festivities in view of drought and farmers’ suicides.

With the government coming up with fresh ideas for making this year’s celebration momentous, the committee resolved to engage people to come up with a catchy Dasara emblem.

The logo for Dasara was last revised 10 years ago, sources said.

A cash prize of Rs. 5,000 will be presented to the designer of the logo selected by the committee, according to Deputy Commissioner and Dasara Special Officer C. Shikha (since transferred).

The logo must consist of two common features — ‘Ambari’ and ‘Arch’, which are prominently seen in the current one.

The last date for sending the designs is August 14. The logos should be sent in JPEG format to mysurudasara2016@gmail.com. The logo launch is scheduled for August 15. The original logo design, working file, font and other details should also be sent. “If the concept of engaging people works out well, they will be roped in again to create designs for Dasara hoardings. The final call rests with the committee,” a source said.
