Sahabalve, a Bengaluru-based NGO working with young people, has chosen a small village in Bidar district for its outreach programmes.

Resource persons from Sahabalve have descended on SV Public School in Nirna in Humnabad taluk for a 45-day-long personality development camp for boys and girls in high school.

They are teaching them skills such as public speaking, Yoga and meditation, apart from subjects such as Kannada grammar. Students are being encouraged to engage in discussions on current affairs and express their views about them in public. “We are also helping ninth class students to prepare for their board examinations in the 10th class,” says Raghavendra Prasad, who founded Sahabalve.

Mr. Prasad, a scientist with a technology company, is on a sabbatical to promote his NGO’s activities. “Till now, we concentrated on Bengaluru and surrounding areas. We chose Bidar because of its poor performance in the SSLC exam,” he said.

Sahabalve has opened a branch in Bidar and plans to continue holding such sessions in other schools and will work with the government and NGOs in improving the quality of education, he said.
