The 14-year-old boy, who underwent bone marrow transplant for acute myeloid leukaemia, died in a hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Residents of Hassan, philanthropists, doctors and many others had contributed for the treatment of Chandrashekhar, son of Suresh D.C and Renuka of Doddahaladahalli near Hassan. However, the boy breathed his last in Narayana Hrudayalaya.
On July 4, 2017, The Hindu carried a report on him, when his parents held a press conference offering to donate their kidneys to raise funds for his treatment. After the intervention of a few doctors and philanthropists, the couple gave up the idea of donating their kidneys.
Janatha Madhyama, a Kannada daily in Hassan, raised funds of ₹5.34 lakh from its readers. Another ₹6 lakh was contributed by different people.
“Hundreds of people contributed from ₹100 to ₹1 lakh for my son’s health. He underwent the BMT but developed complications on Sunday and did not respond to treatment,” said Mr. Suresh.
