The helicopter carrying Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, who was on his way to the air crash site in Mangalore, was forced to land at Hassan following inclement weather there.

The helicopter landed in Hassan after the pilot received information that weather at Mangalore did not permit landing there, sources in the Chief Minsiter’s Secretariat told PTI.

Mr. Yeddyurappa continued his onward journey along with Home Minister V. S. Acharya and Minister for Ports Krishna Palemar by road.

The helicopter was also carrying DGP Ajai Kumar Singh, DGP (Fire Force) Jija Harisingh and an officer of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, sources said.

An Air India Express plane from Dubai with 166 persons on board crashed and caught fire after it overshot the brand new runway while landing at Mangalore airport.
