The son of a municipal council member from Chikkodi in Belagavi district has been arrested on the charge of attempt to rape and blackmailing a young Dalit woman.
The attempt to rape which reportedly happened last month came to light only after the victim approached the Superintendent of Police of Belagavi with her complaint on Monday.
According to the complaint filed by the young woman from Manjari in Chikkodi taluk, the accused not only made an attempt to rape her but also abused her.
The Chikkodi Police on Tuesday arrested the accused Sanjiv Kattikar. The police have booked a case under Section 354(B), 376 and 511 of Indian Penal Code.
