Heavy rain lashed parts of northern and central Karnataka on Tuesday night and Wednesday inundating low-lying areas and in some places streams overflowed damaging the crops in the adjoining farmlands.

The taluks of Mundargi, Shirahatti and Nargund in Gadag district, Hirekerur, Hangal and Ranebennur in Haveri district, Navalgund, Hubballi and Dharwad taluks in Dharwad district received heavy downpour.

While rainwater entering low-lying areas has been a common phenomena, overflowing streams breached farm bunds and damaged crops in Mundargi, Laxmeshwar and surrounding places. There were reports of four houses getting damaged due to the downpour in Mundargi taluk. However, there have been no casualties.

Meanwhile, with rain taking a respite, water levels in some of the rivers in Belagavi district have receded bringing relief to residents. Parts of Kalaburagi, Raichur and Ballari districts have also received good rainfall.

In Davangere district, gruel centres have been set up at Chikkanahalli and Bharat Colony to help residents who were affected by heavy rain on September 25. Members of various organisations distributed foodgrains to residents of Budihal where houses have been damaged due to heavy rain. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the district received normal rainfall.
