HC says Lokayukta police can submit final reports or charge sheets

The Karnataka High Court, on Monday, clarified that the Lokayukta Police can file final reports or charge sheets based on the investigations in all the corruption cases, registered by them prior to formation of the Anti Corruption Bureau, in which investigations have been completed.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath also clarified that the Lokayukta police can continue further investigations even after filing charge sheets in such cases.

The Bench gave this clarification after it was pointed the Lokayukta Police were confused about whether they could file the final report.

It was told to the Bench that though the Court had permitted the Lokayukta Police to continue investigation all cases registered prior to constitution of ACB, there was confusion about their power to file charge sheet as the government had withdrawn the notification granting status of police station to them.
