April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - BALLARI:

Determination coupled with hard work will help clear the civil service examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, Sameer Shukla, Deputy Commissioner, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop organised by the Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha and Viking Round Table and Scouts and Guides Fellowship here on Monday. Around 300 students participated. “There is tough competition in the civil service exams. Yet, with determination, disciplined focus and hard work, you can emerge successful,” he said.

Mr. Shukla advised the students to have a single goal of clearing the exams. “There is no substitute for hard work. Concentrate on the syllabus and keep yourself abreast of the happenings around the globe by inculcating a habit of reading newspapers. Ensure that the feeling of failure does not overpower you when you could not clear the prelims or the mains,” he said.
