GP polls to be held for 5,043 seats on June 2 in Tumakuru

754 polling booths have been identified as sensitive and 517 as hyper-sensitive out of 2,468 polling booths by Deputy Commissioner, K.S.Sathya Murthy in Tumakuru district.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Sathya Murthy said that polling will be held on June 2 for 330 Gram Panchayats for 5,043 seats in Tumakuru district.

Though there are 331 Gram Panchayats, the election for Y.N.Hosakote Gram Panchayat in Pavagada taluk will be held in 2016 for 32 seats.

Nomination papers have not been filed by any candidate for a total of 6 seats in Tumakuru district. In Kadasinganahalli, Kachihalli of Kunigal taluk, Koppa of Turuvekere taluk, Hosahalli in Sira taluk and Maracharahalli in Koratagere taluk no candidate has filed nomination papers.

Candidates had withdrawn the nomination papers for five seats, three seats at Madenahalli and two seats at Lakkanahalli in Sira taluk. Hence elections will not be held for 11 seats on June 2.

14, 857 candidates are in the fray out of which 314 candidates have been unanimously elected.

He said there will be no NOTA option and ballet paper and ballot boxes will be used in this election instead of Electronic Voting Machines.

10,874 polling staff including presiding officers, first polling officers, second polling officers have been deployed for the election in the district.
