Govt. extends tenures of teachers

July 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Bidar:

All government school teachers who are due to retire in the middle of this academic year will continue to serve till the annual examinations. This is to ensure continuity of teaching, and that the teaching-learning process is not abruptly ended, according to Deputy Director of Public Instruction Shivakumar Swamy. This decision to extend tenures of teachers has been taken by the State government and will apply to the whole State from this year onwards, the officer said at a meeting of education officials here.

This model was in force a few years ago, but was dropped. It is being brought into force again, he said.

Teachers who are serving as cluster resource persons and block resource persons cannot abandon their teaching duties, Mr. Swamy said.

According to the rules, they are supposed to train teachers and take administrative action only for 20 days in a month. The rest they have to spend teaching, he said. The same rule applies to office-bearers of teachers association, he said.
