Writer and former minister B.T. Lalitha Naik criticised the State government for not obliging with M.M. Kalburgi’s request of providing him with protection and demanded for expeditious investigation to nab the murderers.
Expressing shock on the assassination of the 77-years-old Kannada writer, former vice-chancellor of Kannada University and a research scholar on vachana sahitya, she accused the government of showing no concern towards Mr. Kalburgi’s life. She said that the murder was not of not just any individual but an eminent personality and his killers must be nabbed soon.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pundalik Halambi described the murder of Dr. Kalburgi as most unfortunate in the field of literature, particularly in the Kannada literary world. The government police should work to disclose the motive and reasons behind his murder, he said.
KSP tribute
The KSP, which is holding its first two-day state-level Women’s Literary Conference in Belagavi since Saturday, strongly condemned the murder of the veteran writer. They decided to drop the cultural performance but would complete the literary sessions as it would be befitting tribute to a literary giant like Dr. Kalburgi.
