The Congress government plans to generate 10 lakh jobs in the State by encouraging small scale industries, Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation vice-chairman A.M. Pathan has said.

He told presspersons here on Sunday that the party was aware of the unemployment problem and had started taking steps to generate two lakh jobs a year so that it could generate 10 lakh jobs in five years.

The focus was more on north Karnataka as the problem was acute here and resources were easily available too. The State government had provided Rs. 360 crore for land acquisition and other purposes.

“Land is being acquired for setting up small scale industries at Sarathi and Kurubarahalli villages in Davangere district and at Ullarthi in Chitradurga,” he added.

Karnataka State Silk Industries Corporation chairman D. Basasvaraj appealed to the Opposition parties not to spoil the State Legislature session scheduled from February 2 by boycotting it over the Arkavathi land denotification issue and concentrate on other development issues. “If an inquiry is conducted into the matter, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders will be in trouble. They should not try to raise the issue,” he added.
