Close on the heels of the decision taken by the government to waive loans to the tune of Rs. 977.42 crore availed by 7.6 lakh beneficiaries from Dalit and Backward Classes, the Social Welfare Department is set to write to each of the beneficiaries informing them of this decision.
Announcing this at his maiden press conference in Bangalore after taking over as the Social Welfare Minister, H. Anjaneya said the letter to each person would also alert them about unscrupulous middlemen or officials who may try to collect a commission for waiving the loans, or even force them to repay the loan amount. The letters will have the contact numbers of top officials.
Mr. Anjaneya said beneficiaries could contact the offices of the Managing Directors of Ambedkar Development Corporation (080-22868870) and D. Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation (080-22374832) over telephone during office hours to get their doubts clarified.
He said the scheme would cover loans to the tune of Rs. 514.26 crore availed by 4,98,234 beneficiaries from D. Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation, Rs. 394.47 crore availed by 1.87 lakh beneficiaries from Ambedkar Development Corporation and Rs. 68.69 crore availed by 74,852 beneficiaries from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Castes’ Development Corporation.
The Minister said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had created a history of sorts by announcing loan waiver scheme.
