Government committed to welfare of SCs, STs: Minister

Minister for Social Welfare H. Anjaneya has said that the State government has released Rs. 15,344 crore for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the government is committed to protecting the interests of those from the backward communities.

Speaking after inaugurating a community hall here on Sunday, he said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given good positions to leaders from the backward communities in his Cabinet. There were plans to construct Maharshi Valmiki Bhavans in every district and the authorities were searching suitable sites.

Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwar said that any community could make progress only when it gave importance to education. He urged members of the Valmiki community to give priority to education.
