A person strangulated his wife and two daughters before committing suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Bandihatti locality of the city on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as H. Nagaraj (41), working as Junior Assistant in the GESCOM office in the city, his wife Rathna (27), Tanushri (6) and Pavani (4).

According to police, the bodies of Rathna and two daughters were lying on the cot, with marks on their throats, while the hanging body of Nagaraj was removed by his relatives.

Vijay Dambal, Additional SP, who visited the spot, said that Nagaraj has left a death note in which he has said that he had taken the extreme step unable to tolerate the harassment by his senior officials. Based on a complaint of Ravishankar, Nagaraj’s brother, working as lineman in GESCOM, police would take up the investigation.

According to Ravishankar, the senior officials had not allowed Nagaraj to attend to duty after absenting himself for a couple of days in the first week of June.

“Nagaraj was unable to attend to duty for three days owing to stones in his kidney that caused acute pain. After three days, he sent a leave letter through his colleague. Meanwhile, senior officials issued him a memo besides reportedly not allowing him to report to duty. This is the main reason for him and his family to commit suicide”, Ravishankar told press persons.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
