Pandit Ganapati Bhat Hasanagi will be conferred the Puttaraj Gawai Award for 2015 during the 101st birth anniversary celebrations of the Hindustani musician, who was born in Gadag on March 7.

Bandral Mrutyunjaya, president of the Dr. Puttaraj Kavi-Gawai Seva Sangha, told presspersons here on Wednesday that Mr. Hasanagi was the third musician in a row to get the award.

The event would be held at Raghava Kalamandir here. The award carries a purse of Rs. 25,000, a memento and a shawl. Later, Pt. Bhat would give a musical concert. P.T. Parmeshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour and district in-charge, Bheemashankarling Shivacharya of Kedar Peetha and Allum Veerbhadrappa, former Minister, among others, would be present.

Mr. Mrutyunjaya urged the State government to announce an award in the name of Gawai, who had dedicated himself for music and also for lighting the lives of those born blind.
