Karnataka Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi came out in favour of ending the domination of elected representatives in selecting the works and spending majority part of the amount allocated to the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board (HKRDB).
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Adi said during his discussion with the Secretary of the HKRDB Aditya Amlan Biswas and the Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal on Monday, it was revealed that 80 per cent of the funds allocated to the HKRDB goes to the works suggested by the elected representatives and only 20 per cent of the amount is spent for major works. “If this is allowed, there is a chance of the region remaining backward for many more years. The earmarked funds should be spent on works as advised by the experts for achieving the desired development of the region and not otherwise,” he said. He said elected representatives have a crucial role to play in the development of the region.
