Shivamogga city reported fresh incidents of arson overnight in which a car and three motorcycles were burnt.
The police have allowed Holi celebrations on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 12 noon. The district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges. Commercial establishments and liquor shops will remain closed.
Unidentified miscreants torched a car parked outside the house in Manjunatha Extension, two motorcycles in Ashok Nagar and another motorcycle in Tipu Nagar on Thursday night. The Tunga Nagar police have registered separate cases over these incidents.
The city has been witnessing communal violence after the Popular Front of India took out a rally on February 19.
On Friday, security personnel conducted a flag march at Gandhi Bazaar, M.K.K. Road, R.M.L. Nagar and other sensitive areas.
Security has been stepped up in the city ahead of the Holi festival that will be celebrated here on Saturday. More than 2,000 police personnel including a platoon of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed to maintain peace.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code will be clamped in the city limits from 1 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday.
