Four youths, in the 18-20 age group, were found dead inside Chetan Sound Service in Lingsugur town on Friday morning, in a suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Another youth, who was found breathing, was shifted to Bagalkot. His condition is stated to be stable.

The deceased were identified as Manjunath (19), Moulali (18), Adappa (18) and Shashikumar (19), all from Karadakal village in the taluk.

Except Adappa, all worked in Chetan Sound Service owned by Prakash. Adappa was a friend of one of the staff, the police said.

The incident came to light when the shop was opened on Friday morning.

According to the police, the staff switched on a generator inside the shop when they went to sleep on Thursday night, as there was no power supply owing to rain and gusty wind.

Carbon monoxide, which is suspected to have leaked from the generator, caused the deaths, the police said.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in the Lingsugur Police Station.

S.P. Patil, Additional Superintendent of Police, Raichur, Sharanabasappa Subedar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Lingsugur, Circle Inspector of Police V.S. Hiremath and Sub-Inspector of Police, Lingsugur Station, Dadavali, visited the spot.
