Five Shabarimala pilgrims from Gowribidnur killed in accident

Five people, including three members of a family, were killed and two others injured in an accident near Doddaballapur in Bengaluru Rural district during the wee hours on Friday.

All the victims were from Gowribidnur taluk in Chickballapur district and were returning from pilgrimage to Shabarimala in Kerala when the tragedy occurred. The car, in which they were travelling, met with a head-on collision with a truck proceeding towards Bengaluru. The tragedy took place around 12.30 a.m.

The impact of the accident was so high that the car was found in a mangled state.

The police gave the names of victims as Hanumatharayappa (40) of Sagenahalli, Ramababu (35), his son Navin (17), daughter Ashwini (12) of Gangasandra and Jagadish (35).

Two injured persons were admitted to the NIMHANS in Bengaluru.

The Doddaballapura rural police are investigating.
