At least four persons were injured in a bee attack on the Jayalakshmi Vilas Road near the court complex here on Friday.

There are beehives on the trees along the street and they were apparently disturbed by a stone pelted at it around 2 p.m. Bees swarmed around an employee of a call centre, on her way to have lunch, and she scampered for cover to a basement hotel but sustained severe injuries.

She was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.

Motorists on two-wheelers were forced to accelerate and drove in a zig-zag manner to avoid the bees and some nearly lost their balance.

However, a senior citizen, oblivious to the bee attack, slowed down as he was approaching his house and removed his helmet only to be attacked by bees.

He dropped the helmet and rushed towards his house desperate to escape but suffered injuries.

The road emptied as people scampered to hide in the nearby office buildings. A senior citizen was the next target and was severely injured as he was unable to run for cover.

But he could not be rescued immediately and and the ambulance service was alerted and a vehicle was rushed to the spot.

The person was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Mysuru City Corporation was informed of the bee attack and it pressed the Abhaya emergency service into service and the team lit bonfires along the road and brought the situation under control after nearly 30 minutes to 45 minutes.

Local residents have complained of the presence of bee hives along the road and want it to be removed as it poses a threat to the general public.
