Four persons drowned and one escaped when the car in which they were travelling fell into a flooding rivulet near Yendigeri village in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district late on Tuesday.

According to reports, they were trying to cross a flooded road when the car got washed away by the heavy current.

The deceased have been identified as Holabasappa Shiraguppr, 55, and Yemanappa Hadapad, 45, of Yendigeri village; and Ashok Satappanavar, 40, and Veerabhdrappa Gurappanavar, 55, of Ramdurga taluk in Belagavi district. Basalingappa Shiraguppi survived after swimming to the shore.

Sources said that the incident was the result of torrential rain that was lashing from evening till late night in the district.

The victims were reportedly travelling to Yendigeri village when the accident took place. The Kerur police have registered a case.
