A total of 45 MUDA layouts have been transferred to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). The layouts transferred on Friday include the private layouts permitted by the MUDA. MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha said residents of the transferred layouts can start paying their property tax to MCC.

The transfer paves the way for the transfer of khata registers of the layouts from the MUDA to MCC.

“Whoever has a khata issued by the MUDA in the layout can pay property tax to MCC from the current year,” Mr. Jagadeesha said, adding that the MCC’s revenue is expected to increase. However, the MCC has brought the layouts under its purview on the condition that MUDA completes all the outstanding works in the layouts.

MUDA had submitted a list of 54 layouts for transfer to MCC. Out of them, the MCC had agreed to take over 45 layouts while the remaining had been kept pending.

A joint inspection of the layouts was conducted by senior engineers of MUDA as well as MCC to draw up an inventory of the works.

“The layouts that had not been transferred to the MCC were the ones where we had issues,” said Mr. Jagadeesha.

The issues included violations in areas earmarked for parks and roads among others.

To a question, he said the MCC will not accept property tax from layouts that had not been brought under its jurisdiction yet.

It may be mentioned here that the MUDA had handed over 62 layouts to MCC about a year ago.

The former MUDA chairman K.R. Mohan Kumar, during whose tenure the layouts were handed over, said the MCC had put off a decision on bringing the layouts under its jurisdiction to complete the joint inspection.

Meanwhile, the MCC officials had made it clear that the layouts near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) that were among the transferred layouts cannot be brought under the MCC’s purview as they were outside the geographic jurisdiction of the MCC.

Hence, a proposal has to be sent to the State Government to expand the MCC’s geographic area to bring all the layouts under MCC’s jurisdiction.
