Forest guard trampled to death by wild elephants

A forest guard who was on foot patrol and going to his camp at the Hediyala range of the Bandipur National Park was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants on Friday night. The guard has been identified as Lokesh (38). His death came to light on Saturday morning after local people found his body and informed the Department of Forests. H.C. Kantharaj, director of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, said there was an elephant herd in the vicinity and Lokesh got trapped among them and was trampled to death. As he was a permanent employee, his family would get compensation.
