A 25-year-old man who appeared to be from an African country was found dead here on Tuesday.

The badly decomposed body was found floating in the backwaters of the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir (KRS), near Sri Venugopala Swamy temple. According to the police, the man might have accidentally drowned in the backwaters while swimming. The incident might have occurred at least four days ago. The dead person’s clothes were found near the edge of the backwaters, M.S. Geetha Prasanna, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Srirangapatna subdivision), said.

Meanwhile the KRS police, who received a complaint from Executive Engineer Shivakumar (Irrigation Department, KRS subdivision), formed an investigation team. “We will approach the African student community in Mysore and other places to ascertain the identity of the dead person,” Ms. Geetha Prasanna said.

The police would approach the office-bearers of associations of African nationals in Mysore, Bangalore and other places too as part of the investigation, she added.

The police shifted the body to the mortuary at the government hospital in Srirangapatna.
