For the first time, people will get an opportunity to have a panoramic view of this historic city from a helicopter. The district administration has made arrangements for the facility in view of the Navaraspur Utsav to be held from Friday.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep told presspersons here on Tuesday that a six-seat chopper had been hired at the cost Rs. 80,000 an hour for three days. He said that each ride would be between eight and 10 minutes long. The charge for adults would be Rs. 3,000 and for those in the 6-18 age group, it would be Rs. 2,500. Booking would start from Wednesday and a counter would be opened at Sainik School Ground, Mr. Randeep said.

Parasailing, paramotoring, aeromodelling and boating at a pond behind Gagan Mahal too would be introduced. Mr. Randeep said boating facility would be continued at the pond after the utsav based on demand.

He said that the Gol Gumbaz would be illuminated at night between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. till the end of the utsav. The construction of stages at Sangeet Mahal, Gagan Mahal and the Gol Gumbaz was under way, Mr. Randeep said.

Local artistes would present cultural programmes and poets from different parts of the country would participate in a ‘mushaira’. “Singer Talat Aziz will present Ghazals and a ‘qawali’ programme too will be held,” he said.

The official invitation card for the event was released at the press conference.

Vijayapura Zilla Panchayat president Umesh Kolkur, chief executive officer K.B. Shivakumar, Mayor Sajjadepeer Mushrif and Additional Deputy Commissioner Gangubai Mankar were present.
