There will soon be a move to make some cities in the State, including Bangalore, kerosene-free, according to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily.
After launching Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for LPG consumers at the Birla auditorium here on Saturday, Mr. Moily said the State government must cooperate to make cities kerosene-free. He said households using kerosene for cooking must be persuaded to switch to LPG to minimise pollution. He said the Union government is ready to give all the support required for it.
He said the DBT is a revolutionary scheme and a big game changer as it would save the nation Rs.10,000 crore to Rs. 12,000 crore that was othereise being swallowed up through malpractice.
Feasibility report
He added that the feasibility report of the liquefied natural gas import terminal to be established in Mangalore was ready and the foundation stone for the terminal would be laid in five months.
After inaugurating the website of the DBT for LPG, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the distribution of Aadhaar cards in the State will be completed in a year.
He said he had discussed the issue with Chairman of UIDAI Nandan Nilekani and Aadhaar registration centres would be increased to facilitate the process.
He said the government would take all measures to implement the Yettinahole project to provide drinking water to Tumkur, Kolar, Bangalore Rural and Chickballapur.
To provide rice at Re. 1 a kg, an additional 1,80,000 tonnes of rice is required and this would be made available in May. He promised that it would be distributed to the people from July 1.
Mr. Nilekani said that 40 crore people have registered for Aadhaar and 37 crore people had received their cards.
