In an attempt to prevent the outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), the Department of Animal Husbandry on Tuesday launched a comprehensive ninth round of vaccination programme for cattle in the district.
Mandya Zilla Panchayat president Komala Swamy inaugurated the drive at a veterinary clinic in Budanuru, and Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Nataraj launched the drive by vaccinating a cow at Ambedkar Nagar in K.R. Pet town.
The authorities requested farmers to make use of the opportunity and administer the vaccines for their cattle at veterinary clinics.
The drive will cover over four lakh head of cattle in seven taluks in the district, an officer at the department said.
Veterinary assistant surgeons, livestock inspectors, animal husbandry assistants, and other staff of the department will visit hobli centres and gram panchayats to vaccinate the cattle, he said.
The department has also instructed animal experts to check immunity levels of cattle, apart from administering vaccines during the drive.
