Lamenting that political interference and frequent transfers was demoralising the police, Kashinath Talakeri, retired Additional Superintendent of police, on Thursday, felt the need to prevent political interference to enable police to function with more efficiency and sincerity.

Speaking after receiving guard of honour as the special guest at the Police Flag Day at the police parade ground here, he said that frequent transfers was also affecting the personal and professional life of the police officials. Mr. Talakeri urged the government to come up with a transfer policy that mandates a police officer to work at one place at least two years.

Maharashtra government had such a policy which mandated the police official to work in one district for five years. Similar policy should be introduced in Karnataka too, Mr. Talakeri said.

Even the higher police officers would ask whether a police office seeking transfer was in possession of a recommendation letter of an MLA or Minister. This was certainly an unhealthy trend in police department, Mr. Talakeri said.

On the occasion, 64 retired police officials of the district were honoured.

Superintendent of police, D. Prakash, Additional Superintendent of police, Jinendra Khanagavi and police officials of various ranks were present.
