Five-day State badminton championship begins in Ballari

The five-day Yonex Sunrise Karnataka State Badminton Championship tournament, organised under the joint auspices of Ballari District Badminton Association (BDBA), Karnataka Badminton Association, District Administration and Police Gymkhana, began at the Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

This is for the first time that the championship tournament was being organised in Ballari.

Ramprasath Manohar, Deputy Commissioner, who inaugurated the event, assured continued support from the district administration for the promotion of sports activities. “Ballari has state-of-the-art sports infrastructure facilities to enable holding of State and national-level badminton and football tournaments. Holding State and national-level events will not only help encourage sports activities but also help local talents emerge as better players,” he said and commended the BDBA for hosting the mega event in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

R. Chetan, Superintendent of Police; Dr. Ramesh Gopal, president, Ballari District Chamber of Commerce and Industry; J. Jayaprakash Gupta, leading Chartered Accountant; and Govind Sarda, businessman, who were among the chief guests, also spoke on the ocassion.
