The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing illegal mining in the State has registered an FIR against Ballari City MLA Anil Lad for illegally transporting ore much beyond what his company was permitted. The case pertains to alleged illegal transportation of ore during 2010–12.

The Congress MLA is the managing director of Canara Minerals Ltd. which had a mining lease in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district.

However, the Lokayukta report on illegal mining pointed out that the company transported 82,275 tonnes of iron ore without any permit, which led to a loss of up to ₹12.3 crore to the exchequer. The SIT has registered a FIR against Mr. Lad and other officials of Canara Minerals Ltd., and conducted searches on the company premises. Charan Reddy, IGP, SIT, said investigation into the case was on and Mr. Lad would be questioned eventually.
