The Kannada film industry once again displayed its commitment to the cause of land, language, water and culture with participating in a huge rally in Kolar on Sunday demanding for a permanent irrigation project for arid districts of central Karnataka region.
Speakers gave call for a ‘no tax’ agitation during the rally.
A number of celebrities including Shiv Rajkumar, Yash, Pooja Gandhi, Ragini led by Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) took part in a procession and public meeting organised by Shashwata Neeravari Horata Samiti in the town.
Thousands from Kolar and Chickballapur districts participated in the protest rally.
Addressing the gathering, actor Shiv Rajukumar urged the people of the region to intensify the stir. “Your cry for water should be so loud so that it reaches the rulers,” he said.
“It is ironical that the land which gave gold for the nation is suffering from the water scarcity,” Mr. Shivraj said.
Speaking on the occasion, actor Yash said people should be serious in their struggle. Then only such struggles will meet a logical end, he
opined.
‘Note for vote unfair’
“Taking note for vote during elections is unfair and it’s a failure on part of people. People’s representatives who got elected by giving
money to voters don’t solve the problems of people,” Mr. Yash lamented.
The Karnataka Film Directors’ Association president M.S. Ramesh, MLC C.R. Manohar, actors Pooja Gandhi, Ragini, Arun Sagar, Padma Vasanthi and Sadhu Kokila spoke.
‘Don’t pay tax'
KFCC president Sa. Ra. Govindu made a vociferous call to the people of the region not to pay tax if the government fails to solve the water problem.
Recalling various forms of agitations during freedom struggle, Mr. Govindu asked the people to launch a ‘no tax’ agitation to make governments understand the water problem of the parched region.
