Farmers lock Irrigation Department office

March 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - BALLARI:

Irked by the absence of officials in the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department at Kampli, and the erratic supply of water to their fields, farmers from no. 2 Muddapur village in Hosapete taluk locked the office and staged a dharna on Tuesday.

Their grouse was that the standing crop in their village and surrounding villages including Thimmlapur was withering for want of water. They alleged that steps were not being taken to prevent the unauthorised drawing of water in the upper reaches.

Executive Engineer Lakshman visited the spot and tried to persuade the farmers to withdraw the agitation and promised action against officials.
