Farmers, cattle rescued

Officials of the Revenue and Police departments rescued five farmers and two head of cattle who were surrounded by flood waters in the Bennethora which submerged a bridge in Chincholi (H) and Gotura villages in Chittapur taluk in Kalaburagi district on Friday.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Govinda Reddy, who supervised the rescue operations, a team of 14 personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, Police, Home Guards and local swimmers travelled about one km in two boats to rescue the farmers perched atop two trees.

According to reports reaching the district headquarters, Ratnappa Pujari, Mallu Teli, Annappa Jamadhar, Manjunath and Hanumanth Teli were caught unawares in the morning after flood waters surrounded them and all their efforts to get out along with their cattle failed. Meanwhile, other village residents informed the authorities.

Meanwhile, an official press release said that due to the floods in Bennethora and Gandorinala, transformer and meters at the old filterbed had submerged and the authorities were not in a position to pump water from the river.

Due to this, localities in Kalaburagi which were provided drinking water from the Bennethora, including Mominpura, Super Market, Old DC office area, Police Colony, Aiwan-E-Shahi locality, Shahabazar and others would not be supplied water till the water recedes.
