Farmer ends life in Humnabad taluk

Gundurao Gyanoba from Shedola village consumed insecticide at home and died on the way to hospital.

Gundurao Gyanoba (50), a farmer from Shedola village in Humnabad taluk, committed suicide on Wednesday night.

He had five acres of land and was unable to repay his loans due to crop loss in the last three years, family members have told the police.

He consumed insecticide at home and died on the way to hospital.

Krishna Byre Gowda, Agriculture Minister, who is visiting the district, met his family members.

The Minister promised that the government would bear the cost of education of the farmer’s children, apart from releasing due compensation.

He told presspersons that the government would waive farmers loans if the Union government did so.

The Minister was supposed to visit Shedola to see a poly house built with government assistance.

MLA Rajshekar Patil told the Minister that five farmers had committed suicide in Shedola this year.

District in-charge minister Eshwar Khandre, MLA Mallikarjun Khuba and Joint Director of Agriculture K. Ziaullah were present.
