A ASHA worker was raped and her family members were attacked by the alleged accused and his followers for filing a police complaint, in Chincholi taluk of Gulbarga district, according to the family members here on Sunday.

The victim, a 28-year-old widow, approached the police immediately after she was sexually assaulted on September 9 allegedly by Shankar Maharaj of her village.

The police, however, did not register a case and did not even send her for a medical test, the family said.

The woman then sought the help of her colleagues. Enraged by her persistent attempts to get a case registered, the accused and his followers attacked her family members.

Later, the family met Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and sought his intervention. Following this, a rape case was registered on September 13. The police said the accused and his followers were absconding.
